VICTORIA-Burglars enter five homes

A series of burglaries were reported in Victoria July 1 between the hours of midnight and 7 a.m., according to the Carver County Sheriff’s Office. There were five burglaries reported within the Deer Run area (1700-1900 block of Woodstone Drive and 8500 block of N. Fairway Point). These burglaries occurred while the homeowners and families were asleep in the residence, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

In one instance, two young children were having a sleepover and were asleep in the living room while the burglar(s) was/were in the home.

    Ground breaking for ‘Trista facilities project

    Minnetrista officials and some residents marked the start of work on a project to construct a new police station and an additional public works building, during a brief ceremony June 16. City councilors approved the $6 million-plus project late last month by a 4-1 vote. Officials expect construction to be completed in early 2010.

    Orono Police Department activity report

    The Orono Police Department issued 173 citations May 25-June 7. Also included in the reports were the following: 20 medical calls, eight reports of suspicious activities/persons, six animal calls, six citations for underage consumption of alcohol, two welfare checks, two unwanted person reports, two fights, two found property reports, one noise complaint, one report of assault, one domestic assault, one harassment report and one citation for minor consumption of alcohol.


    Birthday fun

    Our Lady of the Lake parishioners and area residents took in an ice cream social and activity day under sunny skies, June 14, as part of the church’s weekend of centennial celebrations. OLL marked the 100th anniversary of the church’s first service with weekend observances that included a Mass and the social that featured live music, a variety of old-fashioned games like sack races and a cake walk.
