The dotting of Is and the crossing of Ts for this week’s referendum vote took place at the Nov. 23 meeting of Central School District School Board as both board members and visitors spoke about the referendum.
Community meetings had taken place prior to the vote on Tuesday, Dec. 1, and Superintendent Brian Corlett thanked those board members who attended the meetings. Corlett also stated that at each of the three meetings there were approximately a dozen voters present.
Canvassing for the vote was scheduled to take place on Dec. 1, at 8:30 p.m.
During the meeting, visitor Barry Bowden, suggested that “More disclosure is a positive thing.” What Bowden wanted disclosed was a list of the proposed projects that will take place if the referendum is passed. There are projects at all schools but the most notable is the unearthing construction at the elementary school. It was noted by the board that much of this information was already available on-line.
This edition of the Times went to press before voting results were available, but the outcome of the vote can be viewed at the Times’ website at
waconiapatriot.com and in next week’s print edition.
In other business:
Central elementary principal, Andrew Wilkins reported that Central Sunshiners 4-H Club is sponsoring a coat drive for Mary’s Wish, located in Waconia. They are collecting gently used coats and outerwear accessories of all sizes infant to adult. The collection box is located at the elementary school office.
Wilkins also relayed that second and third grade students will perform their winter program at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium on Thursday, Dec. 10 and will be followed by the fifth grade choir performance at 7:30 p.m.
Middle school principal, Ron Erpenbach thanked Mary Wroge for the implementation of a new tutoring program for reading. Students meet three times a week and work on improving their reading skills. Erpenbach said that Wroge “always rises to the occasion.”
Erpenbach also stated that from the information available to him, Watertown will remain in the Wright County Conference and will not be transferring to the Minnesota River Conference and Holy Family Catholic School will remain in the Minnesota River Conference.
Central High school principal, Ron Brand brought good news to the board regarding the Veteran’s Day Program that took place on Nov. 11, 2009. According to Brand, many in attendance said the program was a wonderful presentation. The event, according to Brand, is considered to be “the finest in the area.”
Parent Teacher conferences took place on Nov. 17 and 23 for Central High School. Brand noted that attendance was down a bit, but attributed the small decline in attendance to all of the information that is available on-line now, which results in a reduced need for face to face interaction of a conference.
The next District 108 School Board meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 21 in high school room A240. The meeting will include a truth in taxation presentation.
