| Chefs in the making
Primary school students have been getting a taste of serious cooking and baking in an after-school Chef’s Academy at Hilltop School offered through Westonka Community Education. The classes, taught by Paula Slagle, head cook at Hilltop, left, were open to first through fourth graders. Students could sign up for one class or the whole series. Above, participants learn to roll pie crust to make apple pie. Other classes included caramel apples, baked Alaska, mini pumpkin cr¸me brulee and fresh homemade pasta. In the class students were taught the fundamentals of food preparation, proper kitchen technique and how to have fun with food. Both boys and girls participated in the classes.
