We want your listings!

Listings for the community calendar are free, but not guaranteed. We encourage you send us your listings of upcoming events and we will do our best to include them.

Send your event information with the date, time, place, ticket prices or fees, and a point of contact with a phone number. The deadline is one week prior to publication, but the sooner we receive the information the better - we recommend submitting your information two-three weeks prior to the event or activity.

Nov. 14-16

MWHS MUSICAL - Mound Westonka High School’s drama department will stagel “Into the Woods”, Friday, and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and a matinee Sunday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. in the high school Little Theater. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for students. Advance tickets go on sale Nov. 5 and can be ordered in person at the high school Activities Office. Payment is due at the time of the order and pre-ordered tickets will be available to pick up at the door. Ticket orders will not be taken over the phone. Other questions can be directed to Lynne Peterson, (952) 491-8197. Any remaining tickets will be available at the door, an hour before each show. A Theater Gala Evening is planned Nov. 15. A limited number of tickets are available for $20 and include priority seating, hors d’oeuvres and dessert. For information on the Gala call Carol Shukle, (952) 472-6928.

Nov. 14-16

FESTIVAL OF TREES - Gillespie Center fundraisers will host a three-day Festival of Trees holiday event. To open the event, Gala Night, emceed by WCCO personality Roger Erickson, will begin at 7 p.m. and will include a wine tasting, appetizers, desserts, and a live auction of designer and themed trees created by a variety of area nurseries, florists and designers. Day two, themed “A Cup of Christmas Tea,” gets under way at 1 p.m. and will feature a reading of the story by Erickson and will include Swedish Fiddlers and The Gillespie Singers. The festival wraps up on day 3 with Family Day from 1-4 p.m. and will include cookie decorating activities and entertainment by Mound Westonka Pop Singers. TURKEY BINGO - The Our Lady of the Lake Knights of Columbus will host a Turkey Bongo fund-raiser beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the the Pace Center at Our Lady of the Lake.

PET ADOPTION - Volunteers from the Carver Scott Humane Society will hold a pet adoption from noon to 3 p.m., at PETCO, in Eden Prairie, located off of Singletree Lane, between Prairie Center Drive and Hwy. 212. All cats and dogs have been micro-ID-implanted, vet-checked, wormed, had shots updated, checked for friendly temperaments, and age-appropriately spayed/neutered. CONCERT/PIE SOCIAL - Faith Community Church of Independence will be hosting its annual Thanksgiving concert and pie socia at 6 p.m., featuring a gospel music and drama team. A free event. Faith Community Church is located at 1796 Co. Rd. 90, at the intersection of Hi-way 12 and county Rd. 90, one mile west of Maple Plain. PANCAKE BREAKFAST - The Our Lady of the Lake Knights of Columbus will host a pancake breakfast 8 a.m. to noon at the the Pace Center at Our Lady of the Lake.

SKI/SNOWBOARD CLUB - Sign night for Venturers Ski and Snowboard Club will be held at 7 p.m. in the Mound Westonka High School cafeteria. All youth, young men and women, in grades 8-12 are eligible and welcome to join. The group will meet Sundays from Dec. 7, through Feb. 22. TURKEY BINGO - The Mound Fire Department Auxiliary will host a Turkey Bongo fund-raiser beginning at 6 p.m. at the first station on Wilshire Boulevard. Proceeds will go to the fire department and community outreach.

Nov. 20

OPEN HOUSE - Open House for Presbyterian Homes’ Transitional Care Unit, 4527 Shoreline Drive, Spring Park, from 3- 6:30 p.m. The event includes a Christmas Bazaar, entertainment, refreshments, dedication and tours of TCU, and prize drawings. MEMORIAL DINNER - A memorial service and dinner will be hosted by the West Suburban Grief Coalition and held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2060 - 6th Ave N (County Rd 6), Long Lake. Nov. 22

FOODBASKETS DISTRIBUTED - The Westonka Food Shelf will distribute food baskets to families in need from 10 a.m.-noon at the Our Lady of the Lake School, 2385 Commerce Blvd., Mound.

HOLIDAY BOUTIQUE - St. George Catholic Church of Long Lake, 133 N. Brown Road, will hold their 32nd annual holiday-themed boutique from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring over 200 homemade pies and a large variety of holiday cookies. The event also includes a silent auction, raffle, crafters, and homemade soup, chili, sloppy Joes, desserts and beverages for lunch. For more information call Janet, (952) 473-1247.

BAKE SALE - Mound Free Evangelical Church’s Compassion Team will hold a fund-raising bake sale from 9 a.m.-noon at the church, 2117 Commerce Boulevard. Proceeds will suport the group’s community outreach efforts.

LUTEFISK & MEATBALL JULBORD - Lyndale Lutheran Church will host its annual Julbord dinner from 2-6 p.m. ($15-adults, $5-children, under 3-free) featuring a traditional Swedish menu. ART SHOW - The annual 9 Friends Art Show will be held at Gale Woods Farm, Dec. 6, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Dec. 7, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature the work of 15 artists in such mediums as pottery, photography, glass, painting, jewelry, and baskets. YOUTH SNOWMOBILE TRAINING - The South Tonka Snowmobile Club is hosting a two-day snowmobile safety training certification course for youth ages 11 -15. Students must pre-register at the South Lake Minnetonka Public Safety facility, 24150 Smithtown Road, in Shorewood. A parent or legal guardian signature is required on the registration card. Snowmobiles will be provided for the practical exam.

FIELD TRIP - To Macy’s 8th Floor Holiday Display at Nicollet Mall in Minneapolis for ages birth to 5 years and parents. Walk through the wonderland of “A Day in the Life of an Elf”. Santa will be on-hand for a visit. Bring a snack or bag lunch for the bus ride home. Bus leaves Shirley Hills Primary School lot at 9 a.m. The group meets up at 11:30 a.m. returns at 12:15 p.m. The fee is $5/person for ages 2 through adult and under age 2, free. INVESTMENT CLUB - The Lake Area Ladies Investment club (LAFF), meets every second Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the Mound American Legion, 2333 Wilshire Blvd. Open to any ladies.

CO-OP INFORMATION SESSIONS - The Harvest Moon Natural Foods Co-op Board of Directors will hold open meetings every Monday night in October and November from 5-6 p.m., at the Harvest Moon site, 540 Willow Drive in Long Lake. Members will be available to talk about the plan for the store and answer questions attendees might have.
