It’s time for the Carver County Fair

Food, rides, animals and more await at the 2008 Carver County Fair. The fun can be found at the fairgrounds in Waconia from Wednesday, Aug. 6 through Sunday, Aug. 10. Gates to the fair open at noon on Wednesday and at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, gates open at 9 a.m.

The gates close at 10:30 p.m. each day of the fair. Admission is $5 for everyone 9 years and older (children 8 and under are free). A multi-day pass costs $22.50 and includes five gate admissions. Individuals must be stamped for re-entry as they leave and there are no pets allowed in the fairgrounds.

The Main Gate is open to vehicles and pedestrians. It is closed to vehicles after 4 p.m. The Fourth Street gate is open to vehicles, pedestrians (some restriction of vehicle traffic during judging) while the Fifth Street gate is open to pedestrians only except entry day and Sunday evening. The Burandt Boulevard gate is open to pedestrians, horse and livestock trailers and vehicles and the Ag gate is open to vehicles and pedestrians.

Parking on the grounds is not open to the general public, but there is a limited amount of handicapped parking available (please inquire). Only commercial and livestock exhibitors can purchase car passes.

Midway rides and games

Goldstar Amusements returns to provide plenty of rides and games on the midway. Ride coupons are $1 each and rides require three or four coupons. A family pack of 50 coupons is available for $45.

The midway opens at 3 p.m. on Wednesday and all rides will be reduced one coupon from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

On Thursday the midway opens a 1 p.m. and riders can pay $22 for unlimited rides from 1 to 5 p.m. A two-for-one special is available on Friday beginning when the midway opens at 1 until 5 p.m. Two people ride for the price of one and the offer is not valid with any other special.

The midway opens at noon on Saturday and all rides are regular price while the pay one price promotion returns on Sunday. The midway opens at noon, and from 5 to 9 p.m., riders pay $22 for unlimited rides.

Designated days

Thursday is Senior Citizens Day and anyone 60 years or older receives a half-price admission from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Saturday is Kids Day and there are a variety of special events planned from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Grandstand shows

  • Wed. - Motokazie Supercross at 7 p.m.

  • Thurs. - Extreme Bull Riders at 7 p.m.

  • Fri. - Semi-Truck & Tractor Pull at 6:30 p.m.

  • Sat. - Demolition Derby at 6:30 p.m.

  • Sun. - Demolition Derby at 6 p.m.

    Admission for grandstand shows is $8 for adults and $5 for kids 6 to 9 years old and free for 5 and under.

    Entertainment Center, Patio

    Both venues offer a variety of musical, comedy and other acts during the fair.
