A massive fire at Shamrock Storage in Green Isle was putting a strain on water supplies in the tiny town south of Norwood Young America July 2.

The storage facility apparently caught fire sometime around 10 a.m. July 2 and continued to burn into the evening.

An estimated 22 fire departments have been involved in fighting the blaze. The fire appeared to be brought under control by 3:30 p.m. July 2, but not before most of the building had been destroyed, according to witnesses at the scene. Heavy smoke continued to billow out of the building Thursday morning, July 3, as fires deep within some areas of the building where wooden pallets are located, along with Nintendo and PlayStation games that were being stored at the facility, made it difficult for firefighters to completely squelch the fire.

Firefighters from virtually every community within an 18-mile radius helped battle the blaze.

No cause has been given for the fire yet. Nobody was injured during the fire, according to authorities at the scene.

Some nearby neighbors had apparently been evacuated because of heavy smoke, but many returned by Wednesday evening.
