MARKING 50 YEARS - Calvin Presbyterian Church of Orono will celebrate 50 years in the Long Lake Community with a 9:30 a.m. worship service, followed by a celebration throughout the church and a luncheon. HOT DOG BENEFIT - ‘Hotdogs for the Homeless’ a benefit for the homeless organized by Orono High School’s Youth in Action Service Club and Orono Community Education is helping “The Sleep-Out” raise funds for Interfaith Outreach & Community Partners with a hot dog sale from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Orono Discovery Center, 5050 Independence Street, Maple Plain. Suggested minimum donation: $5. Funds raised will be matched up to $500 by the Rotary Club of Orono, and total funds raised will be matched by Coldwell Banker Burnet in Wayzata. Interfaith Outreach & Community Partners ‘IOCP’ provides services in the communities of Plymouth, Hamel, Long Lake, Minnetonka Beach, Medina, Medicine Lake, Orono, and Wayzata. FREE MUSIC - Heavenly Blend Coffeehouse at Fairview Covenant Church, 1175 Co Rd 19 (just south of Red Oak Golf Course), will feature The Rotators from 7 to 9 p.m. The Rotators play original music that has a bit of blues sound. ECFE GINGERBREAD WORKSHOP - For children ages 30 months to 5 years with their parent. Build your own graham cracker gingerbread house together. Bring a bag of store-bought candy or cookies for class. SANTA VISIT & FOOD DRIVE - Snata and his West Hennepin Public Safety helpers will be handing out candy to area youngsters along a route that traverses Maple Plain. Reserves will be collecting voluntary donations of non-perishable food for area food shelves. Non-perishable food donations can also be left at the Maple Plain City Hall, 1620 Maple Avenue, or the Independence City Hall, 1920 County Road 90, by Dec. 7. For those who prefer donating cash, the money can be mailed to or dropped off at the West Hennepin Public Safety office, 1918, PO Box 309, Maple Plain, MN 55359, by Dec. 7.Santa will take a break in his travels and be available for photos at Maple Plain City Hall, 1620 Maple Ave., from 5:15-5:45 p.m. Santa’s route and schedule for the event is:

    Dec. 8-9

    Youth Snowmobile Safety Training - The South Tonka Snowmobile Club will host a youth snowmobile safety training certification program at the South Lake Minnetonka Public Safety Facility, Dec. 8, from 8 a.m.to 4:30 p.m. (classroom), and Dec. 9, (time to be announced in classroom) practical exam. Youth ages 11 -15 are eligible to complete the course. Students must pre-register at South Lake Minnetonka Public Safety Facility, 24150 Smithtown Road, Shorewood. A parent or legal guardian signature is required on the registration card. Snowmobiles will be provided for the practical exam.     Dec. 10

    HOLIDAY CONCERT - The Mound Westonka High School and Grandview Middle School choirs will present a joint Holiday Concert, Monday, Dec. 10, at 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Mound. The performance will feature the MWHS Concert Choir and Eighth Grade Choir as well as the Grandview Middle School Seventh Grade Choir in a program of seasonal music, both traditional and non-traditional. There will be caroling by the MaddJazz vocal group prior to the concert, which will also feature various instrumentalists, including handbells. Admission to the concert is $3 for adults and $2 for students and seniors with a maximum of $10 per family. Parking will be in the large lot behind the OLL complex and the only entrance to the concert will be through the doors to the church’s Gathering Space.

    HOLIDAY LUNCHEON - The Lake Minnetonka Women’s Connection will sponsor a Christmas luncheon from 12:30-2 p.m. at the Lafayette Country Club, featuring talk show host and vocalist Joyce Harley and historian and storyteller Bob Gasch.     ECFE MACY’S HOLIDAY DISPLAY FIELD TRIP - Walk through the wonderland of “The Nutcracker”, a traditional children’s story. Santa will be on-hand for a visit.     HOLIDAY CONCERT - Carpe Diem Vocal Ensemble wilol present “Making Spirits Bright,” at 7:30 p.m., at Christ Lutheran Church, 5084 Main Street East, Maple Plain, featuring musical guests CLC’s Bell Canto Youth Bell Choir and the CLC Women’s Trio.     Pop Singer Holiday Shows - Join the MWHS Pop Singers for the some of the best-loved sounds of the holiday season at their holiday performances, Saturday, Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec.16 at 2 p.m. in the Little Theater at the high school. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for students. The Holiday Shows are a benefit for the Westonka Food Shelf. Non-perishable food items will also be collected.

    HOLIDAY MUSICAL - The Chancel Choir and congregation of the Bethel United Methodist Church will present “The Living Light”, a musical drama depicting the birth of Christ, at 9:30 a.m. as a part of the worship service at Bethel United Methodist Church, located at 2116 Commerce Blvd. in Mound.

    OHS ALUMNI HOCKEY - The l7th Annual Orono Alumni Hockey Games will be held at the Orono Ice Arena. Alumni hockey players from the 1991 to 2007 era will play at 6 p.m., while their counterparts from the era 1968 to 1990 will play at 7:30 p.m. The hocky event is the annual fund-raiser for the Leo and Cherie Goslin Scholarship Fund.Any former male or female varsity or junior varsity player is welcome to participate.
